Attractions in the SSR Botanic Garden

Wildlife
SSR Botanic Garden is one of the gardens in Mauritius with beautiful animals. It has an animal corner that hosts deer and tortoises. Ponds in the garden have aquatic animals such as eels, fish, and turtles. Other present animals are endemic bats. The garden is also home to several species of birds. Some of the common species are Madagascar moorhen, ducks, and parrots.

Flora
The garden is rich in flora. It has over 500 species of plants. These include climbers, bulbs, shrubs, perennials, and trees. It has the Palmier Bouteille and the famous Baobabs. It has over 85 species of palm trees. These are brought from across the world. Visitors have opportunities to explore indigenous plant species.

SSR Botanic Garden has a medicinal corner. It was created in 1995. It has over 100 species of plants with medicinal properties. The corner was created in collaboration with the Chinese Agricultural and Technical Team.

The garden also has a spice corner. Based on the Pamplemousses Botanic Garden history, spices were introduced early in the garden. These include cloves and nutmegs among others.

The garden hosts Pont des Soupirs. It is a unique bridge in the garden. Water from the Citron River flows under it. Water from Riley Canal flows over it. The garden hosts Chateau de Mon Plaisir. It is a national monument first built in the 1830s. Old Sugar Mill Model is found in the garden. It was built in 1953. It is an imitation of the early sugar mills. It is a beautiful attraction in the country.

The garden enjoys a tropical climate. The wet season is between November and April. It is usually warm and humid. The dry season is between May and October. The garden experiences a relatively cold dry season. The temperature difference between the two seasons is very small.
