Saadani National Park Tour & Safari Packages

Saadani National Park is in southern Tanzania, about 4 hours from Arusha. The main attraction in the park is the Wami River which flows through it. The river has high-flowing water, which makes it an excellent place for adventure lovers to enjoy a boat cruise that takes one exploring down to the river. The game viewing and bird watching are also fascinating. A total of 25 different species of mammals live in the park, as well as more than 200 species of birds. Some wildlife commonly found in the park are wildebeest, zebra, eland, impala, Grant’s gazelle, and Thomson’s gazelle.

Popular activities

  • Boat cruise

The Wami River is about 5 km long and mostly shallow, but it has an average depth of 4 meters. Because of this, it is an extremely good place to have a boat cruise and enjoy the great scenery and also be able to see some of the wildlife that lives in the park. The Wami River runs through several different feeding sites, which birds and other wildlife inhabit. One can see wildlife in the park, including elephants, hippos, and crocodiles. There are a number of other activities that one can enjoy during this time such as bird watching on Lake Duluti, tracking, and walking.

  • Wildlife Safari Adventure

For visitors who want to really explore the park and experience several activities, Wildlife Safari Adventure is an excellent option. This activity is an excellent way to get a glimpse of some other wildlife that live in the park, especially when it rains. One can see hippos, crocodiles, and elephants in their natural habitats.

  • Horse riding and tracking

Other activities in the park include horse riding and trekking, which are offered by one of the rangers who work in the park. This is an excellent way to get a close look at some of the unique wildlife and birds living in Saadani National Park. Horse riding is also an excellent opportunity to observe wildlife from a different perspective. It also gives one more time to view the wildlife, rather than just driving past them at high speed while on a safari excursion.

  • Walking trail

A walking trail also takes one through the most beautiful spots in the park. One can see several different bird species, vegatation, and other wildlife as one walks along this trail. The hiking trail in Saadani National Park is an excellent way to view wildlife up close.

·         Bird watching

The park offers rare birdwatching opportunities. It is a sanctuary for 400 species of migratory and endemic birds. The park’s relatively pristine grasslands are of great importance to species such as the range-restricted Jackson’s Widowbird, which breeds here regularly after rains. Migratory birds from Europe and North Africa visit from November to April, and from March to May, Jackson’s mistletoe makes a spectacular appearance. .

How to get there

This park is located in southern Tanzania, about 4 hours from Arusha. From Arusha, one can either take a taxi or hire a vehicle. There are also daily buses from Arusha to Saadani National Park and back, which leaves from the bus stations in Arusha and Dodoma. Tour operators: several tour operators provide these services to their clients.

Best times to visit

The best time to visit the park is from October to February. This is because of the favorable weather; most wildlife are in their mating season. The park offers several activities, including horse riding, tracking, boat rides, and walking. One of the main attractions in this park is its boat cruises on the Wami River which can only be done on special dates, so one must make a reservation before the visit.
