Which is the best time to visit La Vanille Nature Park? La Vanille Nature Park is always open for visitors. But November to April may be the best time to visit. During this season, animals are very active and it is easy to spot them. But tours leave early than they do during the dry season.
How to reach La Vanille Nature Park; Tourists enter Mauritius via the internal airport near the city. From here, you enjoy a short drive to Riviere des Anguilles village and then to the park. Your tour operator will arrange transfers from the airport to your destination.
The Reserve
The reserve is rich in flora and fauna. It has beautiful palm trees. It is also full of giant bamboo. This creates a lush green environment. Apart from flora, the fauna in the park is amazing. The reserve has over 1,000 tortoises. This is where you will find one of the largest and oldest tortoises in the world. It is one of the places where Radiata and Aldabra tortoises live in captivity.

In the reserve, you can enjoy several fun activities. You can meet and feed the Aldabra giant tortoises. This is open every day between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm. You can take part in the La Vanille crocodile feeding show. The spectacular shows take place every day at 11.30 am. You can enjoy photography. For instance, you can take a picture with baby crocodiles. This is a lifetime experience. Kids can enjoy pony rides in the reserve.
The Interactive Farm
The Interactive Farm was created in 2015. It has a recreational space for children. This is where they get in contact with many species of animals. They get closer to tortoises and other animals. Don’t worry about their safety. The reserve’s staff is always present. The Interactive Farm has the Pony Club as well as a playground for kids.
The insectarium
This is one of the great La Vanille Nature Park attractions. It has the largest collection of insects. It is home to more than 26,000 species of insects including butterflies and beetles. You will find insects of all colors and shapes.
Fossil Museum
One of the La Vanille Nature Park activities is learning the history of Mauritius. You can do this at the Fossil Museum. It has many fossils from Madagascar. It also has a section dedicated to Mauritius marine mammals. You will see skeletons of seals and whales among other fossils.
