Wildlife

Isalo National Park is a good place to see some wildlife species. It is home to six species of lemur. Red-fronted lemur, Verreaux’s sifaka, and red-tailed lemur are common during the daytime. At night, you can spot Coquerel’s giant mouse, red-tailed sportive, and gram mouse lemurs. The park has many species of amphibians. The most common species are the Malagasy rainbow frog and Mantella Expectata. It has about 47 species of reptiles.

Isalo Madagascar is not the best place for wildlife viewing. But you can spot some of these rare animals in the park. The best time for this activity is from April to November. But it is easier to see reptiles during the wet season.

Birdlife

Isalo Madagascar has over 80 species of birds. This makes it an ideal place for birding. The most common species are red-billed duck, Benson’s rock thrush, and Madagascar bee-eater among others. You can spot birds in the park across the year. But between May and August, most birds are not active. It is hard to spot them. They are more active during the wet season. Migratory birds are common between November and April.

Scenery

Isalo National Park is famous for its scenery. It has several breathtaking hiking routes. The Portuguese Cave Route will take you to the cave via the beautiful Sahanafa Forest. The forest is rich in plant and animal life. This route requires technical skills. The Namaza Circuit route has lovely natural swimming holes. The trail is also along the royal village with ruins of riyal baths, palace walls, and burial places. The Piscine Naturelle Route has crystalline waterholes and pandanus trees. Isalo National Park has colorful rocks. It has a special plant that looks like a mini baobab or the foot of an African elephant. The park boasts unique features and stunning scenery.

Climate

Isalo National Park enjoys a dry tropical climate. It records less rainfall. Temperatures are uniform across the year. The wet season is between November and April. November marks the beginning of the wet season. Between December and February, the park records more rainfall. March and April mark the climax of the season.

The dry season is between May and October. Temperatures range between 14 and 27 degrees Celsius. May marks the beginning of the season. Daytime temperatures are around 28 degrees Celsius. June to September is the long dry season. It is cooler than in May. Temperatures are around 25 degrees Celsius. October is hotter. Daytime temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius.
