The local community started it in 1969, and in 1987 the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya took over. Since then, it has engaged over 100 individuals with different abilities, men and women artisans who participate in crafting and training. The workshops are involved in producing jewelry, hand-printed fabrics, timber figurines and skin artistries for domestic and worldwide markets. The products are marketed in tourist hotels and the expansive showroom.
Tourists travelling to this place want to experience the cultural heritage; they are taken through a tour of their workshops and authentic cultural centre, which comprises of sic traditional homesteads of Kenyan tribes.
