Tour Plan
You'll be picked up from the hotel in the morning, and driven to Tarangire National Park by your guide and driver. Big herds of elephants are one of Tarangire's claims to fame. Zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant, and giraffe are just some of the creatures you might see as you ride through the seasonal marshes, savanna, and Tarangire River in an open-topped truck. If you're lucky, you might see a lion hunting its prey or a leopard lazing in the branches above. Drive to Africa safari glamping or Twiga Lodge after a long day in the park to unwind with dinner and a night's sleep.
Take a trip up into the crater highlands after breakfast, and enjoy the view from the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. The Serengeti is endless and extends beyond the horizon. With a total area of about 18,000 square kilometers (6,900 square miles), Serengeti National Park is home to more than 2 million wildebeest. It is during this time when hundreds of thousands of plain zebras and Thomson's gazelles join the wildebeest in giving birth to their young each year. Migrations of prey animals around the park attract large predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. Together with the over 500 kinds of birds, the area is also home to a wide variety of smaller animals such as rock hyraxes, bat-eared foxes, mongooses, honey badgers, jackals, monkeys, baboons, and African hares. Return to Ole Serai Luxury Camp - Turner Springs for dinner and an overnight stay after your game drive.
The early start and early sun of today's game drive makes it well worth the effort. The afternoon game drive will resume when you and your group return to the campground or rest house for brunch or lunch about midday. Drive to the Ngorongoro Oldeani Mountain Resort in the evening for dinner and a night's stay.
After a quick breakfast, you'll make your way down to the crater bottom to begin your full-day exploration (lunch included). Open grassland characterizes most of Ngorongoro Crater, and a wide variety of species call it home, including lions, leopards, buffalo, zebras, black rhinos, elephants, warthogs, gnus (wildebeests), Grant's and Thompson's gazelles, and more. A lone giraffe is an outlier. Their inability to traverse the crater's steeper ledges explains why they don't live there. You will leave Ngorongoro Crater after a thrilling game drive and head back to Arusha.
