You’ll visit Mgahinga National Park in western Uganda as part of our 3-day safari to go gorilla tracking. In Uganda the only park where Golden monkeys and mountain gorillas coexist is Mgahinga National Park, a small park still neglected by tourists and tour operators; hence, the idiom “Gold meets silver.” The 3-Day Mgahinga Gorilla Trekking Safari is designed for people who don’t have much free time but want to trek mountain gorillas. Encounter Africa Safaris arranges gorilla excursions to Mgahinga. With photo breaks at the equator, our Mgahinga gorilla trekking safari starts and concludes in Entebbe.

Our driving guide will pick you up from your overnight hotel in Kampala or Entebbe and give you a tour briefing while ensuring you have all the required paperwork and supplies. After that, you'll go to Mgahinga National Park in southwest Uganda, stopping to see how drums are produced from wood and animal skins at Mpambire royal drum manufacturers. Depending on the available time, you will travel to the Equator crossing and then stop at Mbarara town for lunch at the Agip Motel. After lunch, you'll embark on a beautiful trip to Kisoro District, passing through Ntungamo's level terrain, Kabale's undulating hills, terraced hills, and winding roads. You'll get plenty of time for a quick break, dinner, and an overnight stay at the lodge.

You will arrive at the Mgahinga National Park administrative building in time for the briefing after a leisurely breakfast and a journey with our driver. Your passport information will be needed in order to confirm your eligibility for the mountain gorilla tour prior to the briefing. One of the UWA rangers will next give a briefing on gorilla trekking, and instructions to follow during the journey, among the gorillas, and after the hike. After that, you'll be taken into the jungle to look for mountain gorillas. There is just one habituated mountain gorilla family in Mgahinga National Park, known as Nyakagezi. Nyakagezi used to travel between Mgahinga National Park and Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park, but it is now a permanent resident of Uganda. After you've located Nyakagezi Family, you'll have an hour to spend with the gorillas before returning to the lodge to spend the night.
