Day 3, 4 and 5: Safaris in Masai Mara
The next three days will be spent exploring the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s premier wildlife sanctuary.
During our morning and afternoon game drives, we’ll explore this vast Kenyan game reserve in search of the Big Five and a wide variety of other animals. Sunsets in the Masai Mara have a distinctive orange hue on clear days, making for stunning photographic opportunities. The Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya spans an impressive 1,510 square kilometers of open plains and lush riverine vegetation created by the winding paths of the Mara and Talek rivers. It’s easy to see why it’s so popular; the landscape is typical open savannah, and there’s a ton of wonderful animals living there.
There is an abundance of species in the enormous Masai Mara, including Masai giraffe, baboons, warthogs, bat eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, topis, impala, hartebeests, and wildebeests. There are also plenty of elephants, buffalo, zebras, and hippos. Lions are frequently spotted either relaxing in the sun after a hearty meal or scanning the horizon for potential prey. While lions and tigers are easy to spot, cheetahs and leopards are much more elusive.
