Black River National Park Mauritius has a wide range of fauna. It is home to animals such as wild pigs and Rusa deer. It is home to many species of birds. You can spot rare birds such as pink pigeons, Mauritius olive white-eye, cuckoo-shrike, kestrel, and Mauritius fody. The presence of these birds makes the park a perfect place for birding.

Scenery

Black River Gorges National Park is a rainforest. It has a wide range of flora. Over 700 plant species have been recorded. In the west region, the park has beautiful gorges. They create a canyon similar to the U.S. Grand Canyon. But Black River Gorges are greener and refreshing.

You can see the gorges at two main points. Black River Gorges Viewpoint is a great spot. Most of the tourists take photos of the gorges from this spot. It is a stopping point for most tours in the park. You can also take a short hike from this point. Apart from Black River Gorges Viewpoint, Piton de la Petite Riviere Noire is a great spot. It is the highest mountain in the country. It is perfect for incredible views. Have your camera ready for amazing photos. Alexandra Falls is another great viewpoint in the park. It is one of the most visited viewpoints in Mauritius.

Hiking trails

Tourists love black river hiking experiences. The park has several routes fit for beginners as well as experts. Beginners can use the Piton Savanne Trail. It is one of the simplest trails in the park. It is along the Bel-Ombre Range. Trails such as Macchabee Forest Loop are a bit difficult. But most people can comfortably complete them. Macchabee allows tourists to see Alexander Falls. Cascade Des Galets is a 3 km hike. But is the most difficult of the trails in the park. Hiking is a key activity in the park. For a better experience, carry enough water.

Climate

Black River National Park Mauritius experiences a tropical savannah climate. It has two seasons. The dry season is between May and November. The weather is perfect for most activities in the park. The number of tourists during this season is high in the park. The wet season is between December and April. Temperatures range between 26 and 29 degrees Celsius. While the weather is tolerable, it may not be fit for hiking activities. The number of tourists in the park during this season is low.
